I am deeply honored to be elected as the 31st President of the Malaysian Society of Otorhinolaryngologists Head and Neck Surgeons (MSO-HNS). It gives me great pleasure to serve this prestigious association with my incoming Executive Committee. I am confident in my committee that has a blend of youth and experience; we will be able to levitate this association to even greater heights.
Many challenges await us for this year, but with hard work, commitment and enthusiasm, all obstacles will be conquered. Many activities had been planned for this calendar year including the 6th Malaysia-Singapore Meeting to be held in Singapore, Joint Meetings with the Malaysian Oncology Society, Society Retreat, Oral Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCA), 3rd ENT Allergy Certification Course and MSO-HNS Annual Scientific Meeting, just to name a few. As we all know, the big event that beacons us is the 14 ASEAN ORL Head & Neck Federation Meeting to be held in Kuching, Sarawak at the Borneo Convention Centre from 12- 14 May 2011. We will also be organizing pre and post congress during this prestigious event.
The Society will also be collaborating with various pharmaceutical companies in continuing medical education. Consensus Guidelines on Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Rhinosinutis and Nasal Polyposis is top on my agenda. A special committee will be formed to look into this matter and hopefully these consensus guidelines can be compiled and launched during the 14 ASEAN ORL Head & Neck Federation Meeting to be held in Kuching, Sarawak. I would like to thank Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) for this fruitful collaboration.
The Society will also form a Fee Schedule Committee to look into the plight and grouses of our Private colleagues. This committee will function in tandem with the Executive Committee in looking into complaints by members or insurance companies. This committee will make final decisions pertaining to the fees and its revision after seeking advice from all members of the Society. All relevant agencies like the Ministry of Health, Associations of Private Hospitals, Association of Insurance Companies and individual insurance companies will be informed on the role of this committee and its power of representation for MSO-HNS.
Lastly, I would urge all members of this Society to be united and stand proud of our Society. This can only be accomplished with dedication, commitment and hard work, therefore let us all work together to propel this Society to even greater heights internationally.
Dr Harvinder Singh
President MSO-HNS 2010-2011
